For about one month -surprisingly December- I cannot get enough of listening to Christmas songs. The festive tunes conquer my auditory canal and stay in there until December 27. That`s when I have enough of them for 11 months. These are the Xmas songs I need to hear every year:
Christmas music ranking
10. Do they know it`s Christmas time – Band Aid
Initiated by Bob Geldof this is one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time. And that`s a good thing, because all earnings are being used for a good cause. By now there have been three versions recorded already and pretty much every international musician has taken part.
“And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?”
9. Lonely this Christmas – Mud / Elvis
Not that well-known and one of the sadder Xmas songs, but it`s just beautiful. Tune in and you`ll know what I mean.
“It’ll be lonely this christmas
Without you to hold
It’ll be lonely this christmas
Lonely and cold
It’ll be cold, so cold
Without you to hold
8. All alone on Christmas – Darlene Love
I noticed this one while watching Love actually (Best Christmas movies ever), as it was among the featured Christmas songs on the soundtrack. And I fell in love with the lyrics.
“All I want for Christmas is you
(Tell me) I’ve got to know
Where do lonely hearts go
Because nobody ought to be all alone on Christmas”
7. I`m driving home for Christmas – Chris Rea
Chris Rea`s hit is the definition of Christmas music. Very festive, yet catchy.
“I’m driving home for Christmas
Oh, I can’t wait to see those faces
I’m driving home for Christmas, yeah
Well, I’m moving down that line”
6. Rockin around the Christmas tree – Brenda Lee
Very well known and one of the most popular Christmas songs. Used in pretty much every Christmas film and that`s perfectly understandable.
“Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone’s dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way”
5. All I want for Christmas – Mariah Carey
One of the most successful Christmas songs of all time. By now it is the 11th-best selling single ever. And it enters the charts easily every new Xmas season.
“I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you”
4. My only wish – Britney Spears
Not yet a classic, but you gotta admit: It sounds really good and brings you in a jolly mood. Certainly among the best of the modern Xmas songs.
“He’s all I want, just for me
Underneath my Christmas tree
I’ll be waiting here
Santa, that’s my only wish this year”
3. Christmas Time – Backstreet Boys
Perfect Christmas music by one of the best boy bands of all time.
Time to share our love
Come enjoy the tidings to the world
Christmas time, the best time of the year
Yes, it’s Christmas time”
2. Wonderful Dream – Melanie Thornton
The most beautiful of all the Christmas songs. Amazing lyrics, great melody, kind of sad and cheery at the same time. You can practically feel the coke trucks coming with Xmas presents.
“A wonderful dream of love and peace for everyone
Of living our lives in perfect harmony
A wonderful dream of joy and fun for everyone
To celebrate a life where all are free”
1. Something about Christmas Time – Bryan Adams
One of the most popular Christmas songs ever. Bryan Adams just has the perfect timbre for Christmas music.
“There’s something about Christmas time
Something about Christmas time
That makes you wish it was Christmas everyday
To see the joy in the children’s eyes
The way that the old folks smile
Says that Christmas will never go away”
I hope you liked the ranking of Christmas songs. If you think of some other Xmas songs that should be in there, feel free to leave a comment.
