Best center-forward/striker ever in football

Goals are the essence of football. Without scoring every effort is useless. Who are the best one`s in this particular discipline?

12. Stephane Chapuisat (Borussia Dortmund)

The former BVB-striker wasn`t the fastet, most creative or most elegant player. But one thing set him apart: He was clever, simply so clever! And he had a natural goal instinct. This made him become one of the most successful foreign strikers in the German Bundesliga. Always liked watching him play.

Achievements: Champions League winner 1997, Bundesliga champion twice
Strengths: Cleverness
Weaknesses: Speed, not a dribbler

  • Key passing score: 70%
  • Finisher score: 90%

11. Andreij Shevshenko (Dynamo Kiev, AC Milan, FC Chelsea)

Lightning-swift and very effective. Unstoppable in his prime.

Achievements: Numerous national titles in Seria A and Premier League
Strengths: Fast, good technique
Weaknesses: Injury-prone

  • Key passing score: 75%
  • Finisher score: 95%

Additional reading: Best withdrawn strikers ever in football

10. Gabriel Batistuta (ACF Fiorentina)

The big-shooting Argentinian Batigol was top-striker in Florence and the national squad. Was feared for his left and right foot hammer shots. A club icon of Fiorentina, because he stayed despite being relegated to Seria B.

Achievements: All-time top-scorer for Fiorentina and Argentinian national squad
Strengths: Right foot
Weaknesses: Left foot

  • Key passing score: 70%
  • Finisher score: 95%

9. Robert Lewandowski (Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich)

Achievements: German Bundesliga and cup champion with BVB and Bayern
Strengths: Very complete, hardly ever injured
Weaknesses: Very good at everything, but not outstanding in any department

  • Key passing score: 85%
  • Finisher score: 90%

8. Romario (PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense)

7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Manchester United)

The excentric superstar is the man for spectacular goals. Certainly not an easy to handle character, but with his strong figure, confidence, technique and will he is an absolute scoring machine.

Achievements: Many national titles in top leagues all across Europe
Strengths: Crazy genius
Weaknesses: Temper, hothead

  • Key passing score: 85%
  • Finisher score: 95%

6. Didier Drogba (FC Chelsea London)

Achievements: Champions League winner 2012, Africa Cup champion with Ivory Coast
Strengths: Physical monster, ice-cold scorer
Weaknesses: Dribbling

  • Key passing score: 75%
  • Finisher score: 95%

5. Thierry Henry (Arsenal London, Barcelona)

The French is an Arsenal legend. His trademark shot was a precise flick from the left corner of the box. Scored countless goals that way, World and European champion.

Achievements: World cup and European champion 1998 and 2000, Premier League champion
Strengths: Balance, speed, scoring, counter attacks
Weaknesses: Not a physical monster, rather light-weighted – so not that much authority in the box

  • Key passing score: 90%
  • Finisher score: 90%

Additional reading: Best central midfielder ever in football

4. Ruud Van Nistelrooy (PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Real Madrid)

An absolute phenomenon, one of the most dangerous strikers of all times. Actually the fourth-highest goal scorer in Champions League history and three-time top scorer in this very competition.

Achievements: Premier League & La Liga champion

  • Key passing score: 70%
  • Finisher score: 100%

Weaknesses: Speed

  • Key passing score: 90%

2. Luis Suarez (FC Liverpool, FC Barcelona)

A very complete master striker. Not just a scorer, he participates in the offense, good for combinations, passing etc.

Achievements: Champions League winner, Primera Division champion
Strengths: Incredibly good scorer, so creative and dangerous in attack
Weaknesses: Mental blackouts like biting or diving

  • Key passing score: 100%
  • Finisher score: 95%

1. Ronaldo (PSV, Barcelona, Internazionale, Real Madrid, AC Milan)

The Brasilian football legend hit the frontpages a lot with his weight, affaires or partying. All that doesn`t change the fact that he was brilliant on football fields, he led his team to world cup victory 2002. He was insanely fast, in control of the ball, cool and equipped with strong and variable shots. Scored goals out of nowhere. I distinctly remember one goal he scored for Barcelona in the Spanish league: He took the ball somewhere at the midline and dribbled around what seemed like all eleven opponents twice before placing the ball in the net…an unbelievable goal!

Achievements: Two-time world cup champion and one-time runner-up, many titles in European domestic leagues, a huge number of individual honours
Strengths: Technique, dribbling, two-footed, feints
Weaknesses: Weight, mentality

  • Key passing score: 85%
  • Finisher score: 100%

  1. In my opinion, Ronaldo isn’t the best striker in modern football history. His speed had made big difference every time, ok. But Romario was better than him with his finishing skills and creativity according to me. And… I couldn’t see Gerd Müller, Van Basten, Rummenigge, Shearer, even Vieri and Jardel in this list. We can reach easily their videos and goal-scoring. Then? Yes, Chapuisat was impressive with his cleverness but other clever man, Sheringham? Sheringham was better scorer than him, no doubt. Unacceptable list, I think. Sorry.

  2. Whats going on here with this strange list. It is called “Best EVER” and then the best strikers ever (Muller, Puskas, Di Stefano, Romario and so on) are all not even mentioned? *LOL*, is this a joke or what? This list is garbage and made by some fanboys which have no plan of Football at all. Of course the named players here are good strikers, but they are definately NOT the BEST EVER!!!
